CM Punk, a prominent figure in WWE, faced an unfortunate injury during the WWE Royal Rumble 2024 premium live event, impacting his chances of victory in the Rumble match where Cody Rhodes emerged triumphant after eliminating him. Former WCW star Konnan recently shared his insights on Punk’s situation, emphasizing the potential challenges WWE might face with Punk’s injury-prone history.
In an episode of Keepin’ It 100, Konnan delved into Punk’s background, particularly highlighting his stint in UFC training, where Punk appeared comfortable despite adopting a rough wrestling style for the past two decades. Konnan expressed concerns about Punk’s ability to shield himself from injuries in the long run due to his rugged ring approach. He asserted that WWE needs to be mindful of Punk’s injury susceptibility after his return, given the taxing nature of his wrestling style.
“He has been doing this for the last 27 years. He is constantly traveling. He has been a part of ROH, which is a promotion known for its tough style. He has always been like there is no one better than him. He wrestles in a very rough style. Many stars like Daniel Bryan and Eddie Guerrero are known for this type of wrestling. With this type of wrestling style, it is a bit difficult to protect yourself from injury, that is why WWE now has a star who may continue to struggle with injury in the future,” stated Konnan.
In a recent WWE Raw episode, CM Punk addressed the injury he suffered at the Royal Rumble, revealing that surgery is imminent, and his time away from the ring might be prolonged. The situation escalated when former World Champion Drew McIntyre made an appearance during Punk’s promo, expressing a desire for Punk’s injury and undermining his participation in the upcoming Show of Shows. McIntyre then proceeded to physically assault Punk, adding another layer of intensity to their unfolding storyline. The WWE universe now eagerly awaits the resolution of this heated rivalry and Punk’s eventual return to the squared circle.
